Group Iranian (with Kurdish, Talysh etc.), Southwest Iranian (with Persian, Tati etc.)
Geography Luri and Bachtiari are located in western and southwestern Iran. Luri dialects include Mamasani, Kukhgelui, Feili; Bachtiari are Cheharleng and Khaftleng. Their speakers are actually a group of tribes leading a nomadic or semi-nomadic way of life on both sides of the Zagros mountains. The speakers of Luri make about 2 million people, Bachtiari - about 450 thousand people.
History Luri and Bachtiari are offsprings of the Old Persian language isolated from the Persian language massive because of some geographical and historical circumstances. There were some attempts made to record folk songs and verse in these languages using a reworked Persian script; today Luri and Bachtiari are not even taught in schools.
