The Gilani language

Group Iranian (with Avestan, Parthian etc.), Northwest Iranian (with Baluchi, Kurdish etc.)
Geography & History Whether Gilani is a descendant of the ancient Median language or a later offspring of Middle Persian - this is still unclear. Today Gilani is spoken in northern Iran, near the Caspian coast in the province Gilan. Its speakers are totally bilingual: Persian is the official language used at schools, in mass media and in state bodies.
Morphology The word order in Gilani remains quite Indo-European, its attributes usually precede the noun (while in Persian adjectives and adverbs follow nouns). New terms are formed by means of suffixation - there are numerous suffixes in the language.
Lexicon The vocabulary is being filled by Persian words all the time.
Writing Though Gilani has its own Arabic based script, its usage is limited by popular use.
